FARM UPDATES

February is coming to close, and inching toward the end of the month brings hope for spring! I must admit to putting expectations too high for beautiful weather in March, but hopefully we can sneak in a few nice days before the next email!

We have four new lamb babies! The first twins were born February 1st, which was a pleasant day for them to be born outside. They are hilariously jumping and running around and doing great! Thomasina takes care of them, and I get to focus on other things. We sell at the Woodstock market the first and third Saturday of the month through early 2022. Thankfully our next set of twins were born on the second Saturday of the month, so I was able to be there. This lambing was a little more difficult, so I am thankful I was on the farm to help. First baby was born with no issues around 7 AM, but the second was having trouble. The easiest birth is the head and front feet to come out first. The second lamb just had one back foot visible for over 45 minutes with no progress, no contractions. We feared the baby might not be able to get air (hopefully umbilical cord still attached) , so I held mama Diamond (if you are a long time subscriber or social media follower, she was our first bottle baby, and she danced with our son in the house). Tiffany donned the rubber gloves and gently pushed the hoof back inside and was able to move the other back foot, which was off-center, into the proper position. I was holding Diamond in place, and when the feet were in position, the contractions resumed and in a few short minutes we had two more healthy lamb babies (and mama). Tiffany did a great job, so if anyone out there is looking for some help with a home birth...kidding, kidding. It was a bit colder, so the new brother and sister got some stylish sweaters!
