Painter Joel Sheesley Visits Root and Sky

Over the last decade, visual artist Joel Sheesley (joelsheesley.com) has spent thousands of hours in plein air painting, focusing especially on Lincoln Marsh, in Wheaton, IL, and the Fox River. Magnficent collections of his landscape paintings have appeared in book form in Lincoln Marsh Journal and A Fox River Testimony; these give evidence of his view of landscape as “the knowable mystery.” In December 2019, Sheesley visited Root and Sky and spent several hours painting in the pasture. His work that day became “The Low Spot,” 2020, oil on canvas—pictured above.
